Review Maharashtra professional-tax responsibilities
Identify the relevant Maharashtra professional-tax registrations and distinguish the employer’s payroll deduction/return responsibilities from any separate enrolment obligations. Have your authorised reviewer confirm what applies to each entity and establishment. Keep registration details, working periods and filing owners explicit rather than treating a registration certificate as evidence that every period has been completed.
Reconcile the salary register to finance outputs
Map departments, cost centres and payroll heads to the agreed accounting output. Compare approved earnings, deductions, employer costs and net pay before preparing the payroll journal voucher and bank advice. Explain excluded or held amounts in the reconciliation, including any prior-period adjustments, so the payment pack and accounting pack can be reviewed against the same approved payroll.
Retain evidence against the correct obligation and period
For applicable PT, labour-welfare, PF, ESI and salary-TDS activities, separate preparation, review, filing and payment status. Record the responsible owner and supplied acknowledgement against the correct entity and period. An ECR working file and a challan payment confirmation serve different purposes; both should remain identifiable when resolving an employee query or responding to an audit request.
